Margaret Qualley was seen last year in one of the biggest hits of 2024, namely The Substance. This horror film was very well received, but it was not always easy. In fact, it took the actress a year to get back to her old self.
During a recent interview on the podcast ‘Happy Sad Confused’, Qualley said that the damage was so severe that director Coralie Fargeat had to keep her face out of the picture in certain scenes.

This is how Qualley begins: “Towards the end, when they film under my skirt, that shot with the palm trees around me was only added because my face was in such bad shape. They just couldn’t film my face anymore“.
The actress says that her acne increased significantly due to the prosthetics. Even when the recordings of The Substance were completed and she started Kinds of Kindness from Yorgos Lanthimos she still suffered from this.
Happiness
Fortunately, this didn’t matter to her role. Qualley continues: “So, you know that role where the character has all that acne? That was just my acne from the prosthetics, but it suited the characters I played in it.”
“This was even worked into the story for one of the many characters I play in this film. The crazy prosthetic acne even came in handy in that case. However, it took quite a year before I physically fully recovered from everything…”
