Laboratories are trying to capitalize on new HPV screening, “unacceptable” according to Minister Vandenbroucke
“Health is not a matter of profit, but of good information,” says Vandenbroucke. “You give patients the right information, without telling them anything. You shouldn’t scare patients to make money with it.”
“We save lives with the new tests,” Vandenbroucke emphasizes. “But laboratories want to continue to make money from the cell test. That is not right, and we will write to them about it.”
He advises patients to discuss it with their treating physician, because he or she must follow scientific guidelines. “They know when a second test is necessary and will prescribe one,” Vandenbroucke ends.
