Paris Saint-Germain reacted strongly this Monday to John Textor's violent criticism of Nasser al-Khelaïfi. The Ile-de-France club responded in the same tone after the attacks by the owner of Olympique Lyonnais on RMC.
The argument burns between John Textor and Nasser Al-Khelaïfi. Exceptional guest of the show Rothen Ignites this Monday, the owner of OL sent several barbs intended for the president of PSG. From his links with his “little doggie” Vincent Labrune to the media development of Ligue 1, the American businessman did not mince his words against the Qatari leader.
A lengthy interview with the boss of Les Gones which could reignite tensions between the two clubs and his personal feud with Nasser al-Khelaïfi. After John Textor's attacks, the Ile-de-France club responded with virulence.
“It’s a shame that class and elegance cannot be bought because that would have prevented Mr. Textor from making a fool of himself through his crude and lying excesses against our president, our institution and our fans,” attacked PSG via a statement from a spokesperson to RMC Sport. “Let him come back to earth, and to France too, to better understand this Ligue 1 that we love so much.”
Textor “shocked” by al-Khelaïfi’s behavior
Without fear of attracting the wrath of the Parisian leader, John Textor denounced one by one the problems that Nasser al-Khelaïfi represents for Ligue 1 according to him. Dominating head and shoulders the other clubs in the championship on a financial level, the president of PSG also has a considerable point thanks to his position as boss of the beIN Sports channel. A double hat which his Ile-de-France counterpart uses and abuses according to the American.
“I knew the situation, but I didn't really know the institutional protection enjoyed by a certain club and the power of a certain person over bodies like the ECA (the European Club Association) and the 'UEFA”, denounced John Textor during his appearance on RMC this Monday. “In July, I was completely shocked because we talked about TV rights and the president of the League, who was to lead the debates, said almost nothing… It was Nasser who led the debates, while he should not even have been present, as the head of a television channel directly involved in the debates.”
Before adding on the behavior of the president of PSG in the face of his possible detractors: “If there was a discordant voice, Nasser Al-Khelaïfi 'barked' at this person, there was a lot of intimidation too.”
“The president of the League sat, without saying anything like a little 'dog'. The League is, in a rather crazy way, dominated by this man. And I wasn't aware of that. The influence of PSG on the League, and even on the DNCG, is something that deserves to be looked at more closely.”
Textor does not like the position of French football PSG
Beyond his first barbs against the boss of PSG, John Textor also criticized him for this desire to appear as the savior of French football “by buying” the players when the other elite teams need liquidity… because the TV rights did not take off due to a lack of partners interested in the League's initial conditions.
And the Rhone leader clearly said about Nasser Al-Khelaïfi: “He has this idea that he has the richest club in the country and that the crumbs he drops are an aid to French football. It's totally crazy to think that.”
