Due to the upcoming match between Real Madrid and FC Barcelona in the final of the Spanish Super Cup, it is worth recalling that it will take place without extra time.
Accustomed to a format in which extra time usually takes place after 90 minutes and then penalties, we could be quite surprised when, in Sunday’s match in the Spanish Super Cup, after a possible draw, the referee would immediately point to the eleventh meter.
This is the result of the decision of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), which in October, before the start of this year’s edition of the tournament, decided to shorten the matches of the national Super Cup. If there is no winner in the regular game time, the referee does not order an additional 30 minutes and we go straight to the penalty shootout.
“The aim is to relieve the minutes of athletes participating in competitions organized by the Royal Spanish Federation of Football. The association responds to requests from clubs competing in tournaments and tries to ease competition protocols for players,” the RFEF wrote in a statement.

This rule was, of course, already in force in the semi-finals, but Real Madrid and FC Barcelona managed to defeat Mallorca (3-0) and Athletic Club (2-0), respectively, in the first 90 minutes.
-The match taking place at the King Abdullah Sports City in Saudi Arabia’s Jeddah is scheduled to start at 8 p.m. Broadcast available on Eleven Sports 1.
