Questioned on this subject, Gérard Larcher corrected the price of the armchair, “34,000 euros exactly for two armchairs and a prototype”, while specifying that the furniture of the Senate “has a history and therefore a cost”. He claimed that he had not been informed of it and had “requested an investigation”, recognizing an “error” while saying he expected “a change in practices from the Senate administration”.
“We cannot advocate the reduction of public spending and not apply it to ourselves,” declared the President of the Senate who in the same interview said he expected the new Bayrou government to continue “reducing the deficit and public spending with concrete actions.”
