Disappointment on the Swiss side during the descent from St. Anton (Austria). The best of them, the Ticino Lara Gut-Behrami, only occupied twelfth place after the passage of the first 35 descenders.
The skier from Comano was 87 hundredths behind the best time, which was signed by the Italian Federica Brignone. The Italian preceded the Czech Ester Ledecka by 18 hundredths of a second. Third at 43 hundredths, Laura Pirovano (another Italian) completes the podium.
Bib No 32, the American Lindsey Vonn, who is back on the circuit, did well: she set the fifth time with a delay of 58 hundredths over Brignone.
Lara Gut-Behrami paid a heavy price for a mistake made after around thirty seconds of racing. She seemed set to play for a place on the podium before her gap. Another favorite, the Italian Sofia Goggia, also made a mistake.
The other Swiss women are further down the rankings. Corinne Suter is in fourteenth place (+0”95), Michelle Gisin in 19th (+1”18), Delia Durrer in 31st (+1”84) and Joana Hählen in 32nd (+1”94). Priska Ming-Nufer, who crossed the finish line, was ultimately disqualified.
The speed specialists will do it again on Sunday in St. Anton, during a Super-G (11:15 a.m.).
