The third round of the FA Cup kicked off this Thursday, with both Premier League sides, Everton and Fulham, managing to navigate through their respective ties.

Everton, just hours after announcing the dismissal of manager Sean Dyche, secured a 2-0 victory against Peterborough, a team from the third tier.

Guinea-Bissau forward Beto opened the scoring in the 42nd minute, before Senegalese Iliman Ndiaye sealed the win with a penalty in the 90+8 minute. Despite the victory, Everton’s ongoing struggle in front of goal was evident once again.

The Toffees have only managed one win in their last eleven matches, leaving them just one point above the relegation zone in the Premier League and in the midst of a crisis, which this FA Cup progress may have alleviated, at least temporarily.

Meanwhile, Fulham cruised into the next round with a convincing 4-1 win over Championship side Watford.

Brazilian Rodrigo Muniz opened the scoring in the 26th minute, followed by Mexican Raúl Jiménez converting a penalty in the 49th minute. Danish Joachim Andersen and Belgian Timothy Castagne added to the tally in the 65th and 85th minutes respectively, after Watford had briefly equalized in the 33rd minute with a goal from Irishman Rocco Vata.

The FA Cup, the oldest football competition in the world, will continue through to Monday. The standout clash is set for Sunday, featuring Arsenal against Manchester United.

NOTE: Clubs marked with a (+) have qualified for the round of 16.
