Starting XI
Thibaut Courtois
Was hardly challenged for the entire 90 minutes. The Belgian didn’t have to intervene with Larin’s header chance. Otherwise he radiated his usual calm. REAL TOTAL-Note: 3.
Lucas Vazquez
The Galician actually seemed stable in a duel, but then made two or three lapses of attention. For Larin’s header (19th), for example, the right-back came too late and the bell almost rang. Offensively, a significantly better performance not only because of his goal assist and the three key passes. The bottom line is a play with light and shadow. REAL TOTAL-Note: 3.
Aurélien Tchouaméni (until the 55th minute of the game)
Until he was substituted due to injury, the Frenchman showed once again why Ancelotti is currently using him as the second central defender in important games. The 24-year-old won all direct duels. He also impressed with proper positional play and the necessary calm on the ball. However, after his collision with Larin, “Tchou” appeared slightly dazed and was consequently substituted. REAL TOTAL-Note: 1,5.
Antonio Rüdiger
As he has done so often in recent weeks, Rüdiger delivered a confident performance. The German may occasionally have a slight weakness in box defense. However, in duels and in terms of body language, he does the record champions a lot of good. REAL TOTAL-Note: 2.
Ferland Mendy
As usual, the Mallorcans barely found a way through the Frenchman’s side. Mendy is and remains a bench and is an important factor in ensuring that the royal defense is quite secure despite many failures. Compared to Vázquez, he is a much more consistent defensive player. REAL TOTAL-Note: 2,5.
Federico Valverde (until the 74th minute of the game)
Real Madrid without Federico Valverde in the starting line-up – that hasn’t happened yet this season. The crowd favorite also started in the control center in the Supercopa. The midfield boss had slightly fewer ball touches than last (52 in 74 minutes). Nevertheless, he gave Los Blancos’ game structure and acted as a link between defense and offense (two key passes). No wonder that the audience saw off the Uruguayan with loud applause. REAL TOTAL-Note: 2.
Edward Camavinga
The left-footed player was without question the pace setter in midfield that evening. “Cama” not only had the most ball actions in Real dress. He is also the best man on the pitch in terms of tackling (won eight out of twelve duels) and depth and transition play (two key passes, several ball-carrying actions). REAL TOTAL-Note: 1,5.
Jude Bellingham
Brought the Royal team to victory after just over an hour. At 1-0, Bellingham initiated his own goal with a quickly taken free kick, then gained momentum to push the ball over the line at the third attempt. This presence of mind and goal-scoring desire, which the former Borussia player lacked at the start of the season, is currently a key factor in the record champions’ success. REAL TOTAL-Note: 1,5.
Rodrygo Goes (until the 87th minute of the game)
Basically a good performance from the Brazilian, as he was very present and active. Rodrygo scored three times in the first round, but initially lacked the necessary killer instinct. Before Bellingham’s opening goal, the birthday boy was also there, but only hit the post. It was all the better that the now 24-year-old gave himself a gift in stoppage time after Vázquez’s cross. REAL TOTAL-Note: 2,5.
Kylian Mbappé
While the Frenchman seemed almost lethargic in some games, especially in the first third of the season, he impressed once again on Thursday evening with many good actions. So he repeatedly initiated impressive attacks and even managed to finish nicely a few times. Before the redeeming opening goal, Mbpappé first passed the ball to Vinícius before (unfortunately) failing to push the rebound over the goal line after Rodrygo hit the post. Nevertheless, the superstar start had his share in the important 1-0 – and also acted as a ball carrier in the final third. It’s a shame that the attacker didn’t reward himself with a goal shortly before the end. REAL TOTAL-Note: 2.
Vinícius Júnior (bis zur 88. Spielminute)
After his red card in LaLiga, the Brazilian seemed slightly irritable in the first half and not always fully focused on what was important. When Bellingham scored an important goal, the winger had his feet in the game with the cross to Rodrygo. A few minutes later he missed making it 2-0 after a wonderful solo performance (78′), only to give Mbappé a great chance just a few moments later (80′). The appreciative applause when he was substituted may have been good for his recently troubled soul, even if he can certainly bring more to the pitch. REAL TOTAL-Note: 3.
