Montceau – The house on rue de Charolles, a real horror

The chimney of the ruined house located at 14 rue de Charolles in Montceau-les-Mines threatened to fall onto the public highway. Work which, logically, was the responsibility of the owner. Except that the latter is under supervision and awaiting hypothetical financing for the dismantling of this chimney, it is the Montcellian municipality which has taken matters in hand.

Since the beginning of last December, with this rickety chimney, a danger order has been issued by the city also requiring vehicles and pedestrians not to use this street.

Monday January 6, 2025, the roofing company Michel from -sur-Arroux took action. It didn't take much effort, “she couldn't hold on anymore, we just pushed her. The chimney was in balance, it was no longer standing upright. Besides, we wonder why it didn’t fall before,” explains Antoine Michel, the son of the Toulon entrepreneur.

This house which experienced an atrocious news story – the son killed his mother before cutting up the body, it was in November 2008 – is a real ruin even though the facade which overlooks the street is still standing. “At the back, there is nothing left, no roof, it’s a disaster,” emphasizes the roofer.

Still to avoid an incident, the roof on the street side was covered. “This is so that the tiles do not fall or fly away in a gust of wind,” he explains.

How long will this hovel – what's left of it – stand? “There is nothing left to save” assures Antoine Michel. “We did what we were asked.” Security.
