Following the death of his friend Anne-Marie Comparini, on the night of this Saturday January 4 to Sunday January 5, François Bayrou expressed his sadness on his account X through a touching message.
Sad news for François Bayrou. The Prime Minister is in mourning. The latter lost a great friend on the night of this Saturday January 4 to Sunday January 5. Former centrist president Anne-Marie Comparini has died at the age of 77. One of her relatives told AFP that the former Rhône MP had been admitted to the emergency room on December 31, before finally taking her last breath around 2 a.m. at the Édouard Herriot hospital in Lyon. . News which greatly saddened the tenant of Matignon.
-Following the death of his faithful friend, François Bayrou expressed his sadness on his account X (formerly Twitter) through a touching message. “Anne-Marie Comparini, a woman of conscience and courage”, he first wrote to describe his friend. Before adding: “Parliamentary assistant to Raymond Barre and his deputy in Lyon, Intransigent, refusing compromise with the National Front, she became president of the region for six years.” And to conclude with emotion: “We loved him and I loved him.”
François Bayrou in mourning: who was his friend Anne-Marie Comparini?
Born on July 11, 1947 in Orange, in Vaucluse, Anne-Marie Comparini was a member of the UDF (center-right) and served as parliamentary assistant to former Prime Minister Raymond Barre from 1978 to 2001. She was also his deputy for city and university policy when he took the reins of the city of Lyon, between 1995 and 2001. She was elected for the first time to the regional council of Rhône-Alpes in 1986. A position for which she was re-elected until becoming its president in 1999. Member of Parliament for Rhône since 2002, she ran in the legislative elections in 2007 under the union label UDF and MoDem. An election where she was beaten in the first round. If she had been approached to be a candidate for mayor of Lyon representing François Bayrou's party, Anne-Marie Comparini finally announced her withdrawal from political life shortly after the 2007 legislative elections. Despite this withdrawal, she showed her support for Emmanuel Macron in 2022.
