Some French fans noted an auditory hallucination in Korean music, used in the second season of the series. A feature that makes people laugh a lot on social networks.

While season 2 of Squid Game has just been released on Netflix, a detail from the series is causing French fans to react. Some Internet users have noted an auditory hallucination present in Korean music used during the Mingle game in episodes 5 and 6 of this new season.

In French, the chorus of the song gives the impression that we are hearing “Coucou les Congolais”. A feature that makes people laugh a lot on social networks, especially on TikTok, where many Internet users are having fun remixing this song and translating it entirely into French.

Korean children's nursery rhyme

Even if the sounds are very similar, the song used in season 2 of Squid Game actually has nothing to do with the Congolese. It is a Korean nursery rhyme called 둥글게 둥글게 (In the round, in French) inspired by another British children's song Ring-A-Ring O’Roses.

As Korean teacher Jimin explains on TikTok, the phrase we hear as “Hello Congolese” is actually “Doong-geul-geh, Doong-geul-geh”, which means “go around in circles “.

A fairly logical meaning since when the song is broadcast in the series, during the Mingle game, the participants must climb onto a platform that turns in circles like a carousel.

Best start in Netflix history

Unveiled on December 26, the second season of Squid Game follows, like the previous one, hundreds of penniless characters who agree to compete in a series of deadly games, in the hope of being the last survivor in order to win tens of billions of won.

A true success, this season 2 had the best start in Netflix history with 68 million views in the space of 4 days. Squid Game is also to date the most watched series in Netflix historywith more than two billion hours viewed around the world.

And the universe Squid Game still has a bright future ahead of it since a third season is already in preparation on Netflix and an American remake directed by David Fincher is also in development.
