There will be some snow showers again in Germany on Friday and Saturday. A thin blanket of snow can form, especially in the northeast. Increased snow showers are also expected in the mountains, which can bring up to 5 centimeters of fresh snow at higher altitudes.
Snow front at the weekend
Things will get exciting again at the weekend, as a strong snow front will create wintry conditions in Germany. On Sunday the sea air will reach us, which originates in arctic regions.
The snow is already spreading from the southwest on Sunday night. However, the precipitation then increasingly turns into freezing rain.
The fallen snow can also form ice sheets. There is also a risk of black ice. However, no severe storm conditions are expected.
Risk of black ice and fresh snow at the weekend
In the eastern low mountain ranges, between 5 and 10 centimeters of fresh snow can accumulate within a few hours. During the course of Sunday the rainfall will also reach the extreme north-east and is already easing again in the south-west.
From North Rhine-Westphalia to Baden-Württemberg it is gradually becoming milder, while to the northeast there is persistent rainfall and temperatures are just above freezing.
Lows will fall to -10 degrees over the weekend
On Sunday night the lows will drop to -10 degrees. On Sunday itself, the maximum temperatures in the northeast half only reach values between -1 and +5 degrees, while 4 to 12 degrees are possible in the other regions.
