THE MATCH
Inter flies to the final of the Italian Super Cup in the name of Dumfries, whose brace in the second half knocks out Atalanta in the first semi-final played in Riyadh. In Saudi Arabia (where there is no minute's silence for the death of former footballer and coach Aldo Agroppi, after last year's boos during the moment of remembrance for Beckenbauer and Riva) the Dutchman disguises himself as a bomber in a evening in which Lautaro proves to still be in difficulty and Thuram stops after 45' due to a muscle problem.
The attack is struggling and so the winger is thinking of giving Simone Inzaghi's team the opportunity to lift the trophy for the fourth consecutive season (a record never reached in history) in the final which will be staged on Monday again in Saudi Arabia against the winner of the match between Juventus and Milan. Challenges which, however, also weigh on the championship objective, as also demonstrated by Gasperini who chooses a strong turnover in the starting line-up of his Atalanta. It is no surprise that Inter, with all their big players, started strong, immediately coming close to taking the lead. Thuram after a miss serves Lautaro, who opens his bad evening by kicking badly twice and serving Mkhitaryan who is saved by Zappacosta. Then it's a super Carnesecchi who says no to Lautaro Martinez, who shoots from a few steps away from a lateral free kick from Calhanoglu but finds a great reflex from the Bergamo goalkeeper.
Atalanta responds with a sensational opportunity wasted by Scalvini, who after a rebound from a cross finds himself alone in the small area but puts his header into Sommer's hand without being able to angle the ball. The great protagonist among the Bergamo players, however, remains Carnesecchi, who first dives to save on a right-foot shot from Lautaro, then on the rebound he exalts himself on Dimarco's rebound. And on the following corner, the Nerazzurri captain takes a sure shot but hits it badly and the ball goes wide. The Argentine invents a heel for Dumfries just before the break, who falls face to face with Carnesecchi after a slight contact with Ruggeri which the referee and VAR let go. In the second half Inzaghi loses Thuram, who remains in the locker room (slight strain in his left adductor) and is replaced by Taremi. Inter, however, were not affected and actually broke the deadlock following the development of a corner, when Dumfries beat Carnesecchi with a close-range overhead kick amid protests from the Bergamo players for a slight push on Scalvini, but Chiffi and the VAR did not intervene and conceded the goal. At a disadvantage, Gasperini throws Ederson, Lookman and De Katelaere into the fray.
But it is Inter who strikes again, with Dumfries once again the protagonist: the Dutchman closes a counterattack with a right-footed shot that hits the crossbar and slips into the goal behind Carnesecchi. Bastoni and especially Lautaro have the opportunity to close out the match, but the Bergamo goalkeeper saves again. In the final, Atalanta, with its big players, pushes to reopen the match. And he would also find the goal to shorten the result with Ederson, but the VAR cancels it due to an offside position by De Ketelaere in the development of the action. Then Inter needed a super Sommer to keep a clean sheet, with the Swiss saving himself with a double save on Djimsiti and Lookman. And so Inter are back in the final again.
