Lamezia Terme – Promoting the culture of environmental sustainability through knowledge of the animal and plant biodiversity present in nature is the objective of the eighth edition of the “Epiphany of Biodiversity” event organized throughout the country by the Carabinieri for the benefit of young patients in pediatric hospitals of the Italian provinces and capitals. The Carabinieri of the Biodiversity Protection Department of Catanzaro and of the Carabinieri Group of Lamezia Terme will celebrate the special day of environmental education and solidarity with the young patients of the pediatric department of the Giovanni Paolo II hospital in Lamezia Terme directed by doctor Mimma Caloiero, involving their family members and healthcare personnel. The event will take place on January 6th at 10am in the pediatric department.
In the reception room of the pediatric department there will be a small stand set up with institutional information material and interactive games, display of natural samples of animal and plant origin to stimulate sensorial-perceptive experiences and a selection of illegal objects seized by the police pursuant to the CITES Convention of Washington on international trade in endangered fauna and flora species.
Furthermore, participants will be offered an immersive experience in virtual reality to promote knowledge of the protected areas managed by the biodiversity police and enhance awareness in the new generations of the importance of preserving the natural environment. The young patients will be given an ecological backpack containing gadgets and information/educational material produced by the Army to celebrate the event. The presence of an Army canine unit used in a brief demonstration in favor of the young patients will conclude the meeting. Carabinieri and children, together, in a common commitment to the environment to promote the value of legality and environmental sustainability by stimulating knowledge and love for nature and biodiversity.
