Inter Milan won their Italian Super Cup semi-final against Atalanta Bergamo (2-0) and are now awaiting their opponent. The other half will pit Juventus Turin against AC Milan.
Inter Milan are in the race to win their first title of the 2025 calendar year. Against Atalanta Bergamo, Inzaghi's men won thanks to a double from the man of the match: Denzel Dumfries. The Dutch piston broke the deadlock after returning from the locker room with two very classy goals. On two consecutive corners, Dumfries took the ball from Bisseck to control with a header with his back to the goal and followed up with an acrobatic return (48th, 1-0). Despite the entry of Lookman on the Atalanta side, it is the Nerazzurri who will strike again. A lightning counter led by Dimarco who served Taremi in the middle. Unable to control the ball lightly touched by Kossounou, the Iranian saw Dumfries rush to the edge of the area to send a missile under Carnesecchi's bar (60th, 2-0). At the hour mark, Inter was already heading towards its fourth final in a row in the competition after three successes (2021, 2022, 2023).
Atalanta scores, VAR decides otherwise
In a very lively meeting, Atalanta tried everything to come back. Gasperini's men thought they would restart the match 20 minutes from time when the Brazilian Ederson adjusted Sommer and Dimarco on the goal line, but was powerless (71st). Euphoria gave way to suspense, then to disillusionment. On goal, De Ketelaere found himself offside and the referee logically canceled the Lombards' hope. Against them, Sommer also shined at the very end of the match, taking away a double opportunity from Djimsiti and Lookman. Like Carnesecchi who delayed the deadline for a long time in the first period against Lautaro Martinez (10th, 21st) and Dimarco (21st), the Swiss goalkeeper nevertheless maintained his clean sheet to send Inter to the final. Holder, Marcus Thuram gave up his place at half-time, but will be able to make up for it on Monday January 6 in Riyadh to lift a new trophy.
Relocated to Saudi Arabia, the Italian Super Cup will offer the public a second semi-final between two sick teams. Juventus Turin, 6th in Serie A against AC Milan, 8th and freshly taken over by Sergio Conceição. Tune in this Friday January 3 at 8 p.m. to find out who will join Inter in the final.
