Denzel Dumfries' double was decisive – Libero Quotidiano

Inter is in the final of the Italian Super Cup. Gianpiero Gasperini's Atalanta were defeated two-nil. The Nerazzurri beat the Goddess thanks to a stratospheric performance by Denzel Dumfriesauthor of a brace. The first – the best -, the one who unlocked the match, marked it even in reverse. The second, however, from outside the area. Now Simone Inzaghi's team will have to wait for the other semi-final, which will pit Milan against Juventus, to find out who their opponent will be.

Inter are the first finalists in the Italian Super Cup, thanks to the 2-0 success over Atalanta which gives Simone Inzaghi's men the chance to defend for the third time a title they have won continuously since 2021. Dumfries scored a brace the Inter victory, with Atalanta without a goal despite a goal disallowed and several chances in front of goal. Inter will have the first chance of the match, in the 10th minute, on the set piece beaten by Calhanoglu and turned on goal by Lautaro who however finds a reactive response from Carnesecchi.

The Goddess responds, five minutes later, on Bastoni's imprecise aerial pass which gives a clean ball to Scalvini, who is not good at giving the right amount of strength to the ball which is then blocked by Sommer. Good pace and opportunities that don't struggle to arrive, with Inter and Lautaro still protagonists in the open duel with Carnesecchi, forced to make a double diving intervention – first on the Argentine and then on Dimarco – to avoid the disadvantage at the end of a good move vertically from Inzaghi's eleven. The first half therefore ended at 0-0, with some problems at Inter regarding the condition of Thuram, who was taken over at half-time by Taremi due to a slight strain in his left adductor.

Substantial balance of the first 45 minutes which however was broken 4' into the second half: another corner taken well by Inter and exploited to the fullest by Dumfries, who did well in the melee of the Atalanta area to turn an overhead kick to find the 1-0 goal. Evening of grace for the Dutchman, who in the 62nd minute even found a brace, thanks to Dimarco's left-handed descent and his service for the Inter number 2 who, first, unloads the powerful right-footed shot on which Carnesecchi can do nothing after a first touch of the crossbar.

Double advantage that seems to unload Atalanta, without apparent benefits given by the substitutions of Lookman and De Ketelaere among others. Inter dominant and also close to 3-0, again with Lautaro not clear face to face with Carnesecchi in scoring the third goal for his team. A gift to Atalanta, who would return to the match in the 72nd minute, with Ederson's goal validated first and then canceled due to an offside position by De Ketelaere. Latest attacks by the Bergamo players which end in stalemate, allowing Inter to gain a pass for the final on 6 January, in which they will have to face the winner of the other semi-final, the one between Juventus and Milan, scheduled for tomorrow at 8pm :00 Italian time.
