Snow, then mild weather… then snow?

Snow, then mild weather… then snow?
Snow, then mild weather… then snow?

Mondayunder the south wind (foehn sometimes sensitive): the mildness continues and is accompanied by mostly sunny weather despite the passage of high, sometimes thick clouds. They become more numerous in the evening announcing a new change in weather.

Southern Alps:

The weather remains dry during the day THURSDAYwith a mainly sunny atmosphere despite high cloudy periods which sometimes alter the impression of good weather, particularly in the north of the region.

The disturbance begins in the early evening in the Hautes-Alpes and spreads quite quickly (but temporarily) to Haute-Ubaye and Haut-Verdon by mid-evening. The rain-snow limit is close to 1000/1200 meters. This disturbance quickly recedes in the Ecrins in the middle of the night from Thursday to Friday and the weather dries up everywhere at the end of the night.

The expected snowfall accumulation is as follows:

– around 1400 meters: traces at 2 cm in the Alpes-Maritimes and the south of the Alpes de Haute-Provence, 2 to 5 cm further north or even 5 to 10 cm in the Ecrins valleys.
– above 2000 meters: traces at 2 cm in the Alpes-Maritimes, 5 to 10 cm in the Alpes de Haute-Provence, 10 to 15 cm in the South and East of the Hautes-Alpes and 15 to 20 cm on the immediate border of Isère or Savoie.

Fridayclouds hang around a little in the early morning in the Hautes-Alpes then quickly break away. Otherwise, the weather is very nice with seasonal temperatures with minimums around -7/-4 degrees around 1500 meters and maximums around +1/+3 degrees at this altitude.

-

SATURDAYvery sunny weather in the morning (severe frosts in the high valleys) even if there is a heavy cloud cover. The clouds spread quickly over the west of the region at midday then only spare the Italian border in the afternoon with a gloomy atmosphere almost everywhere. But, unlike the Northern Alps, the weather should remain dry.

Sundaythe weather should be beautiful and above all very mild. Let's still note close to Savoie, as far as Briançonnais, at the start of the day. Maximum temperatures rise to +8/+13 degrees around 1000 meters and +5/+7 degrees around 2000 meters.

Mondayconditions look mixed in the morning with already quite a few cloudy periods. Then we wait for a disturbed passage in the afternoon and for the following night. Chronology and intensity will need to be refined but potentially significant snow accumulations are expected over a large part of the massif.

Vosges and Jura:

The disruption is already here Thursdayi morning on the Vosges. It rained temporarily quite high but the snow is starting to appear from 700/900 meters. This type of weather should quickly reach the Jura by midday and will last until the end of the afternoon.
Then, as the map below shows, the precipitation is confined to the Jura in the early evening and stops everywhere in the middle of the evening (snowflakes from 600 meters under the last showers). We therefore expect:
– around 900 meters: 5 to 10 cm in general.
– above 1300 meters: 15 to 25 cm in general, locally 30 cm on the highest peaks of the two massifs.
