Despite the establishment of the “red zones”, it was a night of super work for the police forces in Milan and its hinterland. Although, fortunately, without critical cases.
Four injured by firecrackers
In Piazza Duomo, where thousands of people traditionally gather for the celebrations (over 20 thousand according to initial estimates) but where there was no big concert, everything took place “officially” without problems and already around 1am they were going into action AMSA's means to clean up. Four people sought treatment from the advanced medical post for superficial injuries from firecrackers. Like every year, however, despite the stringent bans, the city has transformed into a “store”, with barrels everywhere. “Glass bottles, firecrackers, people screaming, fights, I saw everything in Piazza Duomo, I don't think the red zones worked particularly well”, writes a reader to MilanoToday.
Alcohol poisoning
During the night there were around thirty cases of alcohol poisoning, involving both very young people (20-year-old girls and men) and older people. The most serious cases were rescued under code yellow and taken to Sacco, Fatebenefratelli and San Raffaele.
The firefighters carried out around thirty interventions due to fires on balconies (for example in via Bassini), bins and roofs, but without injuries. 118 does not record any serious transports. In via Zamagna, in the heart of the so-called 'casbah' of San Siro, the police were subjected to bottles and firecrackers being thrown, while some agitated people piled up household goods and set them on fire. The facts are being investigated by Digos, which is viewing the cameras in the area.
Fights and assaults
A couple of knife attacks between very young people caused two injuries, fortunately not serious. At 3.40 a 29-year-old was taken to San Paolo after being attacked in via Mantegani (Stadera area): his condition, initially critical, now does not cause concern. In via Garibaldi an 18 year old and a 19 year old came to blows and were taken to Sacco. Another brawl involved a 27-year-old and a 28-year-old in Viale Gorizia, both of whom ended up in hospital with minor injuries. In via Apelle (Gorla) a discussion ends up between a 17-year-old minor, a 24-year-old and a 27-year-old: 118 treated the bruises under the green code at San Raffaele. A 27-year-old was then attacked in Viale Crispi (Garibaldi area) for reasons to be ascertained and treated at Fatebenefratelli.
