The American federal police, the FBI, have found more than 150 homemade bombs during a search of a farm in the eastern state of Virginia. This is the largest discovery of explosives on an individual in the history of the police service, American media, including The Washington Post, report.
The search took place last month. Police went to the farm of 36-year-old Brad Spafford after a report from a concerned neighbor. Most of the bombs were found in his garage, some were labeled “deadly.” A “recipe booklet” was also found with instructions on how to manufacture explosives such as grenades.
Spafford, who is married with two children, was arrested. It is not known what he planned to do with the explosives, but a backpack with the inscription #nolivesmatter was found, which would refer to an extremist and anarchist organization. Spafford is said to have used photos of US President Joe Biden on a target in his garden.

The suspect is charged with illegal possession of a firearm. More charges are likely to follow for possession of explosives, for which he could receive up to ten years in prison, the prosecutor’s office says. In 2021, Spafford lost three fingers on one hand while working on a homemade explosive.
Spafford’s lawyers have asked for him to be released because he is “a good family man who works hard and has no criminal record.”
