Paris Basket, which remained on four consecutive losses in all competitions, returned to victory by overcoming Limoges (96-88) Monday evening in an advanced match of the 14th day of the French Elite championship. Tyson Ward (30 pts, including 7 of 13 three-pointers) and TJ Shorts (26 pts, 9 assists) were the great architects of the success of the capital club against Limougeauds who held it high until at the call of the fourth quarter (68-68).
Beaten the day before in Villeurbanne (98-92), the Parisians continued in “back to back”, i.e. two matches in 24 hours, something unprecedented in the regular season of the French championship, in order to have a little recovery time before their trip to Spain on the floor of Vitoria on Friday in the Euroleague. Monaco and Asvel, the two other French representatives in the Euroleague, will play their match of the 14th day on January 5.
Ward on fire from 3-point range
After a first quarter in management mode (23-16 after being up to eleven points ahead), TJ Shorts and his teammates messed up their Basketball in the second quarter. While they were still leading 37-35, Tiago Splitter's players suffered a severe 10-0 inflicted in less than two and a half minutes by a successful CSP, guided by his fullback Trevon Bluiett (18 pts, 4/6 three points) and his captain Nicolas Lang (18 pts including 3/6 three points). A basket behind the line from Ward stopped the bleeding and allowed the Parisians to come back to five points at halftime (45-40).
With a good series from Nadir Hifi (seven points in a row for a total of 13 pts) and a slalom from Maodo Lo, Paris came back to the level of the CSP (68-68 at the end of the third quarter). The final quarter opened with a 7-0 for Paris Basketball, which gradually widened its lead (94-84 at 1'05″ from time) in order to end its black streak and turn the page on a delicate period.
Affected by a virus which decimated its workforce for a while, the capital club was forced to request the postponement of its Euroleague match against Fenerbahçe scheduled for last week.
