On the occasion of the announcement of his government, François Bayrou decided to appoint François Rebsamen Minister of Regional Planning and Decentralization this Monday, December 23. A choice which is part of the Prime Minister's desire to open up to the left.
After several days of consultations, François Bayrou made the decision to appoint François Rebsamen as Minister of Regional Planning and Decentralization this Monday. This is a return for the former mayor of Dijon (Côte-d'Or), since he served as Minister of Labor, Employment, Vocational Training and Social Dialogue between 2014 and 2015, under François Hollande.
The new minister has a long-standing “relationship of trust” with the head of government. His appointment also reflects François Bayrou's desire to open up to the left.
Indeed, François Rebsamen is a former executive and senator of the Socialist Party. The latter, however, has distanced itself from the PS since the 2022 presidential election and the choice to present Anne Hidalgo.
In March 2022, he launched the Progressive Federation, a political party allied with the presidential majority, made up of former socialists, some of whom, like Patrice Vergriete and Olivier Klein, who have already held ministerial positions.
