West Ham United are keen to elevate the side to the next level with the signing of Galatasaray forward Hakim Ziyech, Fichajes reports.
According to the news outlet’s website [23 December]the former Chelsea forward has made his intentions clear to Galatasaray that he wishes to leave Istanbul in January.
The Hammers attempted to offer Ziyech a way out of West London in 2023 [Jeunes Footeux] before he opted for a move to the Turkish Super Lig, but with Julen Lopetegui eager to recruit a new forward in January, he could find himself back in the Premier League.
West Ham United want to sign Hakim Ziyech
The 31-year-old failed to replicate his dazzling form at Ajax during his three-year spell with London rivals Chelsea, but he would undoubtedly be a welcome addition at the London Stadium.
Jarrod Bowen has held the goalscoring burden alone in East London throughout Lopetegui’s maiden campaign at West Ham, and with Lucas Paqueta and Mohammed Kudus struggling to produce consistent form, the side is desperately crying out for a creative outlet.
Ziyech would walk through the doors at the Irons as one of the most esteemed members of the squad, having lifted the 2020 Champions League at Chelsea and played an integral role in Ajax’s famous semi-final run in the 2018/19 version of the competition.
Even more impressively, he helped guide Morocco to the semi-finals of the 2022 World Cup.
The 64-cap Moroccan international could be available on a free transfer in January as he negotiates a contract termination with Galatasaray, which would be far and away the most attractive, cost-effective option on the market.
Tim Steidten will not be able to replicate his summer exploits this time around with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability rules lingering over the East London outfit – therefore, a more creative approach in the transfer market will be necessary.
Now, a move for Corinthians forward Yuri Alberto is impossible midway through the season after reports have confirmed he will see out the English league season in Brazil – Ziyech is the therefore perfect short-term solution for Lopetegui.
In other West Ham news, Konstantinos Mavropanos should pack his bags after an emerging transfer revelation at the Irons.
