LIMA, Peru (APTN/CBS Newspath/WKRC) – Authorities deployed “The Grinch,” equipped with a sledgehammer, to breach a home and take alleged drug traffickers into custody.
In a creative twist on law enforcement, Peru’s national police deployed an officer dressed as the ‘Grinch’ to arrest suspected drug traffickers over the weekend. The operation, conducted by the Green Squadron unit, took place during the Christmas season.
The officer, part of the specialized Grupo Terna unit, donned the costume of the famously grouchy character known for stealing Christmas. The disguise allowed the officer to blend into a neighborhood in the San Bartolo beach resort area of Lima without raising suspicion.
Col. Carlos Lopez Aedo, head of the Police Green Squadron, explained the strategy behind the operation.
“Using the ingenuity and cleverness of the Terna Group, we used the Grinch, after an activity for Christmas,” Lopez Aedo told APTN. “The presence of the Grinch went unnoticed. He was the one who initiated the operation by breaking the access door and we managed to capture these three drug traffickers.”
Authorities reported the seizure of cocaine hydrochloride, cocaine paste, and precision instruments such as scales and strainers during the raid.
A video released by police shows the Grinch, in a Santa suit, searching the house and finding money and drugs. The operation concluded with the arrest of three individuals, who will be brought before the judicial authorities.
In a light-hearted moment captured on video, the Grinch was seen dancing and declaring, “I hate Christmas and criminals.”
