It all came down to penalties. Toulouse beat (0-0, tab 2-4) the club of Haut-Lyonnaisresident of National 3, this Saturday, December 21, 2024, during their entry into the running in the 32nd final of the Coupe de France. Story of a difficult match between two teams who showed the same level of play and who ended up with ten players on the field.
Niklas Schmidt complicates the task
After a minute of silence in tribute to Mayottethe Violets present themselves on a pitch in poor condition in their dashing yellow jerseys with a reshuffled squad. Seven changes should be noted compared to their last success against Saint-Étienne. The two teams initially have very balanced exchanges. The locals even pushed Alex Dominguez, cup holder, to leave the area twice (5th, 16th).
However, the first real highlight comes when Niklas Schmidtestablished to allow him to regain confidence, cuts an attacker launched at full speed. The tackle is late and both feet are off the ground, the red card is logical (27th). The match then seemed to get carried away and the chances kept coming, although not very spectacular. The score remains goalless at half-time.
Blank score on the scoreboard and 10 to 10 on the field
The match resumes with the entry onto the field of Joshua King. However, a big contact with a defender puts him on the ground for many minutes and pushes him to come out, replaced by Aron Donnum, with a bloody bandage on his head (63e). The (mis)deeds of games follow one another and Rudy Loirette also ends up leaving the field, receiving a red card. His tackle, with both feet off the ground, almost injured Yann Gboho (67e). Toulouse then regains momentum. Gabriel Suazo frames a very nice free kick (73e) and Isidore Tissot must make a double save to preserve the score (77ᵉ). The amateur goalkeeper is imperial.
Dominguez and Donnum save honor
The match ended in penalties. Franck Magri rushes first and misses his shot. Fortunately, Hilal Bouguerra staggers forward, injured, with a bandage on his head and shoots at the crossbar. Alex Dominguez stops the next attempt. Aaron Donnum puts the match ball in the back of the net, on a small feint shot. Charlie Cresswell, author of a boss match in defense, dances with the supporters who have made the trip. Toulouse, 9th in Ligue 1, saves its honor against an amateur team which has only won one match in the league so far, despite six great successes in the Coupe de France.
The next TFC match will be Sunday January 5 on the lawn of Lensat 3 p.m.
