NEW DELHI: Ministry of Railways has sanctioned ten special trains as a relief to Kerala, which is suffering from Christmas season travel sufferings. Railways has also sanctioned 149 special trips in various railway zones along with this. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw informed the Union Minister of State George Kurien about the sanction of special train to Kerala. As many as 413 special trips have been announced for the Sabarimala pilgrimage.
The announcement by the Railways will bring great relief to the Malayalees who are experiencing travel difficulties during the Christmas period. None of the sleeper, third AC and second AC from Bengaluru, Chennai, Mumbai and Hyderabad had confirmed tickets to major stations in the Kerala district. The announcement by the Railways comes at a time when passengers were forced to rely on air and bus services by paying extortionate fares.
A total of 149 special train trips across various zones have been announced for Christmas Festival 2024. The details of the train services are as follows:
● South Western Railway (SWR): 17 trips
● Central Railway (CR): 48 trips
● Northern Railway (NR): 22 trips
● South East Central Railway (SECR): 2 trips
● Western Railway (WR): 56 trips
● West Central Railway (WCR): 4 trips
The details of the 416 special train trips for Kerala for Sabarimala pilgrimage is as follows:
● South Western Railway (SWR): 42 trips
● Southern Railway (SR): 138 trips
● South Central Railway (SCR): 192 trips
● East Coast Railway (ECOR): 44 trips
These trains aim to ensure smooth and convenient travel for passengers while addressing the surge in demand during the holiday season.
