The days follow each other, but are absolutely not the same. Friday was marked by beautiful sunshine over a large part of , with “fairly cool” temperaturesexplained Thursday to actu.fr Steven Tual, meteorologist, founder of the TempsBreton account on social networks.

The famous calm before the storm. Because on Friday evening, it blew hard in the South. There should be a small windy lull at the start of the weekend, but, to mark the winter solstice, Saturday December 21, 2024 will be a rather rainy day. Before the return of the snow in the mountains.

Saturday December 21: scattered showers, but some areas will be spared

In fact, on Friday, the Channel coasts were more or less in the rain due to a perturbation which stagnated above Norman territory. This disturbance has since moved, crossing the country bringing showers.

It should be positioned above a (major) Lorraine – Massif Central axis, which will therefore be particularly affected by rain this Saturday.

In addition, according to Météo France, the South-West should also be affected by “scattered” showers. Temperatures, however, should not be excessive (neither too cold nor too hot), and be “within seasonal norms”selon Steven Tual.

Sunday December 22, snow in the mountains, rain elsewhere

If you were planning to go out on Sunday, bring an umbrella and a hood! You will have to expect many rain showers, sometimes “particularly sustained”warns Steven Tual.

Data that concerns the entire country, as demonstrated by Météo France forecasts:

The meteorologist also anticipates “ a lot of snow in the mountains. Up to 50 cm of snow is expected in the Alps. The reliefs of the Jura, the Vosges, the Pyrenees and the Massif Central will, for their part, be affected by a “sprinkling”.

On the other hand, snow will “probably not fall on the plains”.

(Very) strong gusts of wind

Again, temperatures should be seasonal, but a strong wind will blow over the northwest of the country. The gusts will then shift towards the south of the country on Sunday afternoon, where a new storm (not yet named) should appear.

Steven Tual already anticipates “ potentially dangerous gusts “. These could reach 240 km/h in Corsica.
