FIRST ALERT WEATHER THURSDAY: Snow continues to swirl around the valley, as storm system sweeps through with wind today. A Winter Storm Warning is in effect through 6 p.m. for additional snowfall accumulations of 1-3″ with isolated areas with 3-4″ and gusty winds leading to travel impacts. Winds increase this morning and afternoon and will gust out of the northwest over 30-40 mph at times, especially in SE ND, leading to blowing and drifting snow and slick travel. Visibilities may drop below 1/4 mile due to a combination of falling and blowing snow. Whiteout conditions are possible and may make travel very difficult. Plan on hazardous road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the Thursday morning and evening commutes. The snow gradually tapers off into this afternoon and tonight, but winds will continue to stir up some blowing snow, hampering travel until easing overnight. Expect cold air to take over with colder wind chills. Communicate any travel plans and have your winter survival kit in your vehicle.
FRIDAY: Friday will be cold once again with lows below zero for most locations. High will only be in the single digits with mostly cloudy skies. There is another chance for light snow Friday PM as another Alberta Clipper moves through. This one will be far less impactful than the previous one, but light accumulations will be possible.
SATURDAY – SUNDAY: Light snow exits through Saturday morning. Otherwise expect a continued cloudy day. Morning lows will be cold in the single digits either side of zero, and high temperatures “warm” a little bit into the teens. Warmer, and a bit breezy, on Sunday. Lows start in the teens and high warm closer to seasonal average in the 20s. Still mostly cloudy to wrap up the weekend.
MONDAY: Seasonably mild temperatures continue for the holiday week! On Monday, we start in the teens and low 20s, and warm into the 20s to near 30. It will be mostly cloudy.
CHRISTMAS EVE – CHRISTMAS DAY/HANUKKAH: Nice and mild (seasonably speaking) for the holidays! Christmas Eve will be partly to mostly cloudy with lows in the teens to low 20s and highs approaching 30. Santa and his reindeer might be pleasantly surprised for the quiet conditions! For Christmas Day and the start of Hanukkah, temperatures will be a bit warmer yet. There won’t be much sunshine, but the morning brings lows in the 20s and highs in the upper 20s to mid 30s.
