“I have a message from my client to all these hysterical and these ‘bad mouths’. The message is ‘shit’, but with a smile”: this Thursday, December 19, 2024, at the end of the Mazan rape trial, Lyon lawyer Christophe Bruschi, counsel for Joseph C., accused convicted by the court, stood out to the boos of the crowd.

Filmed and wearing a big smile, he ended his diatribe with the words “go knitters” while greeting the feminist activists to whom he was speaking.

« Des furies »

“You are a shame for ”: the crowd responded by multiplying the insults and invitations to remain silent with regard to the lawyer.

Questioned by journalists about his comments with misogynistic overtones, he replied: “the knitters, you know, during the Revolution, they were women who sat in front of the guillotine, who knitted, and who were just waiting ‘one thing: let the guillotine fall […] Do you find it normal that they ask for 20 years for all the accused? I am proud to have defended my client. »

Christophe Bruschi, lawyer at the Lyon bar, explained that he was not addressing “all women”. “Look at them, they’re furies! Provoking them a little, these kinds of people, that doesn’t bother me at all,” he defended himself.

As a reminder, the main accused, Dominique Pélicot, 72 years old, was found guilty of aggravated rape of his wife Gisèle Pélicot and of all the facts with which he was accused, including that of having also recorded images of a sexual nature of his daughter, Caroline.

In total, the court handed down sentences ranging from three years (two suspended) to 20 years in prison. The 50 other co-accused were also gradually determined about their guilt, sometimes accompanied by aggravating circumstances, as well as their sentences. The court necessarily had to individualize its sanctions.
