Mazan rape trialthe verdict.
The day has finally arrived. At the end of this fifteenth week of trial and after giving the floor to the 51 accused, the Vaucluse criminal court delivered its verdict this Thursday morning.
Dominique Pelicot was found guilty of aggravated rape and attempted rape of his wife, who was raped numerous times after being sedated. He was also found guilty of recording images of his daughter and two daughters-in-law. He was sentenced to 20 years of criminal imprisonment with a security period of 2 thirds of the sentence. In his case, the court followed the prosecution’s requisitions. This was not the case for the 51 defendants who were all found guilty with sentences ranging from 3 to 13 years in prison. The prosecution had requested sentences ranging from 10 to 18 years. Six accused will therefore emerge free.
The hearing started at around 9:45 a.m. With Dominique Pelicot in the box in front of his former wife, Gisèle Pelicot, who said “a little stressed” before entering the courtroom. But also their three children.
Dominique Pelicot “took note” of the decision
Dominique Pelicot “took note of this decision”, declared his lawyer Me Béatrice Zavarro this Thursday late in the morning. Adding: “We will take advantage of the delay (10 days from the ruling) to find out if we are appealing this decision.”
“I wanted Ms. Pelicot to be able to emerge from these debates peacefully,” said Mr. Zavarro. As for her client, Dominique Pelicot, “he is somewhat dazed by the security period set out for him,” she declared.
