The wind will blow strong, very strong. Météo France places the Bouches-du-Rhône department and therefore Marseille, in wind yellow vigilancethis Friday, December 20.
This alert is in effect from 2 a.m. to 6 p.m. Here are the details.
Gusts up to 100 km/h
Throughout Bouches-du-Rhône, gusts should oscillate between 80 and 90 km/h, with peaks reaching 100 km/h in Marseille and in the Calanques.
These violent mistral blasts make travel and outdoor activities more risky, particularly in exposed areas. The department is therefore placed in wind yellow vigilancewith authorities recommending residents to remain vigilant in the face of these conditions.
Canceled events
Due to strong gusts of wind, the big Christmas parade planned for the Old Port of Marseille is once again canceled. Initially scheduled for December 7, it had already been postponed for the same weather reasons.
On the other hand, the drone and pyrotechnics show planned for this Saturday is, at this time, maintained. Forecasts indicate that the wind should be limited to 45 km/h, allowing the event to run smoothly.
A windy weekend
The wind will continue to blow throughout the weekend. Thus, in Marseille, residents will have to face sustained gusts reaching up to 60 km/h on Saturday, before climbing to 70 km/h on Sunday.
So this weekend is coming particularly windyrequiring vigilance and adaptation for outdoor activities.
