The Rock reached out to a WWE Hall of Famer.
At WrestleMania 40 Cody Rhodes finally defeated Roman Reigns to become the Undisputed WWE Champion. But that was only part of the story.
In a wild main event, The Usos, Solo Sikoa, John Cena, The Rock, and The Undertaker all made surprise appearances as Rhodes and Reigns went to war. In the chaos, The Undertaker confronted Rock and gave him a Chokeslam after the Hollywood star had dispatched Cena, before disappearing.
Following the event it was reported that The Undertaker’s spot was originally intended for Steve Austin, but the Texas Rattlesnake turned down the appearance over money.
During an appearance on The Roommates Show with Brunson and Josh Hart, Triple H explained that it was anything but easy trying to get ‘Taker to agree to the spot.
The back-and-forth included a call from The Rock who personally tried to talk the Hall of Famer into making the cameo.
“It took us forever to get him to do that thing. A lot of that stuff comes together in the tail end. When I first called him for it, he’s like, ‘I don’t know. I don’t think I want to do it.’ I’m like, ‘80,000 people are going to go absolutely insane.’ It took us a little bit.
Rock had to call him. Everybody had to call him to get him to finally acquiesce to do it. When he retired, he sort of wanted, ‘I’m just done.’ He didn’t come out with the hat and jacket. The hat and jacket are retired. ‘I’ll come out as me, but I’m not coming out as Undertaker.’ He just wanted it to be over.”
The Rock To Make WWE Return
According to a new report, The Rock is plotting a return to WWE television in January. It’s been claimed that the Great One will feature on Raw’s Netflix premiere on January 6th alongside John Cena.
The same report noted that Steve Austin and Shawn Michaels could also be on hand.
It’s long been believed that The Rock will be in action at WrestleMania 41 against Cody Rhodes. However, more recent reports have suggested the company is planning for the event without him. But all these notes have come with the large caveat that if Rock wants to wrestle at the event, that’s exactly what’s going to happen.
