Miss France will be banned from the Miss World competition. Angélique Angarni-Filopon received the Miss France crown on Saturday December 14 in Poitiers, with tears of joy. And she didn’t really believe it, Miss Martinique, when she entered the competition after a bet with some friends. Especially knowing that she was runner-up in the election in… 2011, that is to say more than a decade ago.

Her bet, as the young woman pointed out in her presentation speech, was made “on behalf of all the women who have been told ‘it’s too late’.” A fight against the stereotypes linked to the aging of women that Angélique Angarni-Filopon has won. “I am constantly reminded of my age, I believe I am well preserved,” she said at a press conference.
At 34 years old, the Martinican flight attendant became the oldest Miss France since the creation of the competition in 1920. It must be said that until 2022 age was a ruthless selection criterion. 24 years was the limit.
Miss World and her limit
But, as for the Miss World competition, an age limit does indeed remain, despite the criticism: 27 years. This therefore prevents our national Miss from participating. A disappointment undoubtedly for Miss France, because it is traditional for beauty queens from each country to then participate in international competitions, such as Miss World and Miss Universe.
But all is not lost for Angélique Angarni-Filopon, who will be able to enter, if she wishes, the Miss Universe competition. This, also since 2022, is more inclusive. Applicants may be married, divorced, have children or be transgender. And there is no longer any criterion regarding age. By becoming Miss Universe, Angélique Angarni-Filopon would be the oldest queen of this beauty contest which has existed since 1952.

But Ève Gilles, Miss France 2024, who has just returned her crown, has made it known that she wishes to participate in Miss Universe. In any case, the year will already be busy for Miss France 2024 and she should only apply, if necessary, in 2025.
Sabah Aïb, candidate for Miss World?
Does the de facto exclusion of Angélique Angarni-Filopon for Miss World mean that France will have to pass its turn? By discovering through The Voice of the North the age limit, the first runner-up of Miss France offered to replace her. “If Angélique doesn’t go to Miss World, I will try my luck,” said Sabah Aïb, Miss Nord-Pas-de-Calais. Which she will only do if Miss France “agrees”, of course, she added. At 18, she is just below the age limit… to enter the competition.
