In an interview with HUMO, Ruben Van Gucht looked back on a striking moment from his participation in the VRT program Het Huis. During the broadcast, his mother said that it would be good if Ruben would also talk to his father about his love life. The conversation has not yet taken place, but Van Gucht says that a date will be set soon.
Van Gucht admits that he has had conversations with his parents in the past, but that these did not always lead to understanding. “At a certain point you notice that you no longer find each other,” he says candidly. “Not that we had heated arguments, but our views on how to spend life simply turned out to be incompatible.” Yet he emphasizes that the lack of agreement has not caused a rift. “We never really let go of each other.”
“Not speaking is also communicating”
According to Van Gucht, it takes time to deal with such differences and emerge stronger together. “I’ve really found that there’s nothing wrong with giving things time,” he explains. “Forcing everything quickly doesn’t help. As long as you have the intention to eventually grow together again, you shouldn’t rush.” He adds that silence can sometimes be an essential part of the process. “Not speaking is also part of the speaking process.”
