The 16th matchday of Serie A ended with surprise results, confirmations and teams unable to emerge from their negative period.

Below are the votes from 10 to 0 in our usual scoreboard.

10 on the report card for victory number 10 in a row: Atalanta are first in the standings and deservedly so. Against Cagliari they suffered in the first half but Gasperini had the courage to change men and interpretation of roles, winning the match in the second half.

The only comment that can be made about Atalanta is the reliability of the reserves: “Not everyone is at that level yet”Gasp himself said it. But Zaniolo’s goal is an excellent signal in this sense: if everyone adapts, the Scudetto will no longer be just a dream.

In pursuit is Inter who had a difficult test and as such it started against Lazio, then beaten 6-0. First 30 minutes of apprehension and then the penalty that changed the match (analysis here). Then Gila’s injury, the two goals conceded but above all a shocked start to the second half. Baroni’s Lazio disbanded and Inter exalted themselves. This victory could be a key moment in the Biancoceleste season: loss of confidence or compactness of the group? Only time will tell.

Monza’s last victory dates back to 21 October, then 3 draws and 6 defeats. And yesterday’s 2-1 against Lecce, despite the gift given by the own goal shared between Dorgu and Falcone, was not enough. Nesta’s team wobbled, collected and even vehemently failed to resume the match in the second half.

The coach has the trust of the club but the latter is not inexhaustible. Calm and solidity must be rediscovered, especially for the way of playing that Monza would like to have. At this rate, relegation is approaching ever faster.

Roma falls, again, just when no one expected it and loses badly against a Como team who created and shot more on goal. The ranking is scary: 2 points from the relegation zone, we need to change gear to save face, because now the season can only be “saved” in the Europa League.

The convincing victories against Lecce and Braga have dissolved and that confidence will have to be found again soon, starting from the Italian Cup against Sampdoria.
