According to the Federal Gardens, the Meiereitor and the Maria Theresien Gate in Schönbrunn were also closed. GeoSphere Austria had issued a yellow storm warning for parts of Lower Austria and Burgenland as well as Vienna for Monday.

The strongest gusts of wind were measured on Monday morning. In Döbling on the Hohe Warte there were heavy gusts of up to 93 km/h, and at the Jubilee Observatory in Ottakring there were even hurricane gusts of up to 125 km/h. “Stormy westerly winds are still blowing in the afternoon, but by the evening at the latest the gusts are no longer as strong,” says Radio Vienna weather expert Kevin Hebenstreit.

70 fire brigade operations due to gusts of wind

The Vienna Fire Department has recorded 70 calls since the wind started late on Sunday evening, which could have been related to the strong wind. However, these were just typical incidents such as overturned construction grids and loose bricks.
