Former football commentator Eddy Snelders has been referred to the criminal court. He must answer not only for voyeurism and exhibitionism, but also for sexual assault and the possession of images of child sexual abuse.
The 65-year-old Snelders came into controversy at the end of last year after a neighbor filed a complaint against him for exhibitionism. She told the police that she had seen the man in his sixties openly pleasuring himself several times and she also had proof.
The police carried out a search at Snelders’ home and seized IT equipment. Numerous images were found that Snelders had secretly taken of several dozen women in the toilet and in the shower. He made the recordings with hidden cameras in his home in Brasschaat, his office, his chalet in the Ardennes and in the changing rooms of a public swimming pool.
The Antwerp public prosecutor’s office wanted to bring him to court not only for exhibitionism and voyeurism, but also for possessing images of child sexual abuse and for assaulting his neighbor, a cleaner and his then underage stepdaughter. The council chamber referred him to the criminal court for those charges.
Snelders does not dispute the exhibitionism and voyeurism, but he does dispute the assaults and the possession of images of child sexual abuse. It is not yet clear whether Snelders will appeal against the decision of the council chamber to the indictment chamber.
