It is clear that Barcelona has a problem. It can make the most optimistic doubt because, despite the crisis in the league, the team continues to save the situation in the Champions League. However, the lack of competitive tension at times and the thickness shown by the players at various times show that something is not right and Flick must act.
Of the last six games, five of them, except for the thrashing of Mallorca, have been setbacks. The most striking thing is that the Catalans’ rivals have always been in a worse situation, but they have managed to get something out of Barça. Real Sociedad had only one victory at home in LaLiga and it was against Valencia, bottom of the competition; Celta was losing until the 82nd minute; and Betis had a run of 4 games without a win in the domestic competition.
Likewise, Leganés and Las Palmas were in a very similar situation when they conquered the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys. Both were in seventeenth place in the table when they visited the leader’s home ground. Even so, they did not back down and managed to pull off a surprise. In addition, both teams scored the first goal in the 4th minute, although the Madrid team did so in the first half and the Gran Canaria team in the second. This shows that FC Barcelona did not start the periods of play with the concentration required.
The pace with which the Barcelona team started the season was not sustainable, much less with a squad as short of players as is the case of the Blaugrana. However, the end of the first half of the championship is taking a long time for Barçait is no longer just a bad November. The problems have been more than exposed and Hansi Flick has the challenge of getting the cables to generate current again, if he does not want to lose the lead of LaLiga in the last match of 2024, against Atlético de Madrid.
