Next low blow in LaLiga: Leaders Barça embarrass themselves against promoted Leganés

Barcelona lose 1-0 to Leganés despite dominating the game, meaning the Catalans have now won just one of their last six LaLiga games after winning 15 of their previous 16.

  • FC Barcelona concede their second consecutive home defeat in the league. After Las Palmas, newly promoted Leganes also beat the Catalans.
  • Defender Sergio Gonzalez scored from a corner kick in the 4th minute to give the underdogs a 1-0 win at the Olympic Stadium, the replacement arena while the Camp Nou is being renovated.
  • Barcelona have won just one of their last six league games, reducing their lead over Atlético Madrid. The Colchoneros celebrated their sixth win in a row at home against Getafe and now have the same number of points as Barça with one less game played. Real Madrid are one point behind the duo.

Without suspended head coach Hansi Flick, FC Barcelona suffered a surprise setback in the Spanish championship title race. The Catalans lost their home game 0:1 against the blatant underdogs CD Leganés and now only lead the table ahead of Atlético Madrid thanks to their superior goal difference. Champions Real Madrid lurk one point behind.

Four days after the 3:2 away win in the Champions League at Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund, Barça lost in front of 39,523 spectators after conceding an early goal from Sergio Gonzalez in the 4th minute. Offensively, the team led by Poland’s star striker Robert Lewandowski produced very little.

Flick was replaced on the touchline by assistant Marcus Sorg. The former national team coach had been suspended for two games following his red card in the 2-2 away draw against Betis Sevilla. The 59-year-old Flick will therefore not be allowed to coach the Barça team in next Saturday’s top match against Atlético.
