The die-hard Bretons continue their magnificent adventure. Stade Brestois won again this week against PSV Eindhoven and qualified, at least, for the round of 32 of the Champions League. Brendan Chardonnetcaptain of the Pirates, was invited to the microphone of Focus Sunday on RTL, this Sunday, December 15, to discuss this dream journey.
Currently seventh in the queen of competitions, the Brestois are impressing more and more as the weeks go by. “Our strength is character. We don’t give up, even when we take a few storms,” says the team captain.
At 29 years old, Brendan Chardonnet has been experiencing his finest period at Stade Brestois since last season. The native of Saint-Renan has worn these colors since 2010: “When we retrace the path, I experienced the years in Ligue 2 with the club, we went to play in Châteauroux, in Niort, in Tours… When we look back on those years and see where the club is now, and myself on the pitch, it's extremely pleasing. There was a lot of work, it’s a source of immense pride.”
According to the latest survey carried out by Odoxa for Winamax and RTL, SB29 is the most popular Breton club at the moment, while 25% of football fans even think that SB29 can win the Champions League. “We feel this fervor, this empathy, this sympathy towards the club. I think the French like stories like that, where the little guy takes on the big guys – and wins too! We try to provide emotions to the public, to the supporters of Brest of course, but also to all of France,” assures Brendan Chardonnet. And the mission is successful.
