The podium
- 1. Sofia Goggia (ITA) 1:03.90
- 2. Lara Gut-Behrami (SUI) +0.48s
- 3. Ariane Rädler (AUT) +0.55 s
Sofia Goggia appeared in her second appearance since her injury as if she had never been away. After finishing second the day before in the downhill, the Italian distanced herself from the competition by a whopping 48 hundredths of a second or more. Lara Gut-Behrami came closest to Goggia. The Ticino woman showed a fearless performance on the “Birds of Prey” and celebrated her second podium finish of the winter in second place after finishing third at the speed opener.
The 33-year-old’s consistency in Super-G is impressive: last winter she reached the podium six times in nine races in this discipline. It was her 92nd (!) podium finish in the World Cup. “It was certainly good from the middle,” said Gut-Behrami, who started the race slowly at the start. “I am very happy with the weekend.” Rather surprisingly, Ariane Rädler greeted us from third place, knocking the previous day’s winner Cornelia Hütter off the podium.
The other Swiss women
- 9. Michelle Gisin +1.14 p
- 19. Corinne Suter +1.63
- 21. Joana Hählen +1.95
- 24. Jasmina Suter +2.17
- Not in the points: Delia Durrer (+3.04), Stephanie Jenal (+3.39) and Priska Ming-Nufer (+3.79)
As in the downhill on Saturday, Michelle Gisin showed a good performance and finished in the top 10, a good second behind Goggia. But in the interview afterwards, the Engelberg native questioned out loud for the first time whether starting in all disciplines was still a viable option for her is. “I celebrated this for years and defined myself by the fact that I am an all-rounder – but it depends,” says Gisin.
Behind them the other Swiss women followed, some behind. Corinne Suter improved in her second race after the comeback and finished in the top 20. “The direction is right,” summed up the woman from Schwyz. But she still needs more kilometers and training days. “There’s nothing you can do to catch up, I have to keep at it.”
The moment of shock
Starting with number 43, Nadia Delago fell horribly after the Golden Eagle jump. The Italian lay down for a while, but was then able to cross the finish line on her own to the applause of the audience.
