Club forces in the final quarter and easily wins against weak Genk (2-0), Ivanovic shows the way for Union with a hat trick against Westerlo (3-1)

Club Brugge moves within one point of the leader after a home win against Genk. Only in the final quarter were blue-black able to really push through, Brandon Mechele and Skov Olsen eventually led the national champions to a comfortable 2-0 victory. Lower down in the rankings, Union is again in the top six after a logical 3-1 win against Westerlo. Striker Franjo Ivanovic unleashed his devils with three goals.

After just a few minutes of play, Greek purchase Christos Tzolis scored for the home team with an incredible miss. After a nice attack by blue-black, the ball ended up at the foot of the wing attacker, who managed to push the ball wide in front of an empty goal.

Immediately a serious warning for leader Genk, which showed very little in the first half. A place ball from Tolu (which zoomed narrowly wide) was the only Genk achievement before half time, Club was able to counter this with a few chances from Tzolis.

Slap Genk

Even after the break we saw a particularly weak Genk. The chances were few and far between until the Limburgers were awarded a penalty after a mistake by Ordóñez on Tolu. The Nigerian went behind the ball himself, but goalkeeper Mignolet chose the right angle and stopped the Genk top scorer’s penalty.

In the final quarter, Club decided to finally go forcing. It was Brandon Mechele, with a broken nose, who gave the home team the lead with a pinpoint header from a corner.

Skov Olsen secured the victory five minutes before the end by cleverly kicking a rehearsed free kick into the far corner. Club Brugge comes within just one point of leader Genk and continues its unbeaten run.

Due to the loss of points to Standard and KV Mechelen, Union was able to enter the top six again. Assignment: win at home against Westerlo.

The people of Brussels played freely in their own Duden Park and had their sheep on dry land after 45 minutes. Striker Franjo Ivanovic continued his good European form and fired Union to a comfortable 2-0 lead with two goals.

The Austrian also showed his class after the break. Promise David kept track of the ball and stabbed deep towards Ivanovic, who sealed his hat-trick with a wonderful lob. Westerlo was able to soften through Jordan Bos, but Union’s victory was never in danger. The people of Brussels are again in the top six after a convincing victory.
