The great Egyptian artist Nabil El-Halafawi has passed away, at the age of 77, after suffering from a severe health crisis. Dr. Ashraf Zaki, head of the Acting Professions Syndicate, confirmed the news in a press statement, explaining that the funeral prayer will be held today, Sunday, at the Police Mosque in Sheikh Zayed, Giza Governorate. .
The late artist was transferred to the hospital last Tuesday following a severe respiratory crisis, as his family refused to disclose details of his health condition, only requesting prayers for him. His friends from the artistic community, including director Amr Arafa and artist Salah Abdullah, were keen to invite the public to pray for him in his final days, before his health condition deteriorated significantly in the last hours.
Nabil El-Halafawi’s artistic career bore distinctive imprints in theatre, cinema and television. He was born in the Sayyida Zeinab neighborhood in Cairo on April 22, 1947. He graduated from the Faculty of Commerce before joining the Higher Institute of Dramatic Arts, and began his artistic career in 1970 through theater. His first television participation was in the series “Muhammad, the Messenger of God” in 1980, after which he continued to present immortal works.
In cinema, Al-Halafawi left an unforgettable mark in films such as “The Road to Eilat,” “Poor People Do Not Enter Paradise,” and “Bastards,” while he gained wide fame in television drama through works such as “Raafat Al-Hagan,” “Zezinia,” and “Wannous.”
The last appearance of the great artist was in the movie “Handing over the People” in 2022, where he participated as a guest star alongside Donia Samir Ghanem and Hisham Majed. This work represents the conclusion of a long artistic career that spanned decades, which made Al-Halafawi one of the most prominent acting symbols in Egypt and the Arab world.
