O Sporting beat Boavista, 3-2this Saturday, December 14th, in a game counting for the 14th round of the Liga Portugal Betclic. João Pereira thus achieves the first victory for Clube de Alvalade in National Championship games. See HERE how the match went.
At the José Alvalade Stadium, the lions entered dominating and took control of the game early on. The 1-0 would come in the 23rd minute, Pedro Gomes, Boavista defender, made a bad delay for César and Viktor Gyokeres didn’t waste the opportunity, he beat the opposing goalkeeper and shot to count. However, just before the break and against the flow of the game, Róbert Bozeník, in the 43rd minute, appeared free in the Lions’ area and tied the match.
In the second half, the Lions again put pressure on the team, making it 2-0 after 49 minutes. Maxi Araújo crossed low and Francisco Trincão appeared in the right place to deflect the Uruguayan’s pass. At 58′, Bruno Onyemaechi appeared in the area and shot hard for 2-2 with Franco Israel feeling ill in the photo. At 66, Viktor Gyokeres served Francisco Trincão perfectly, with the winger scoring twice in the match.
With this victory – the 18th in 24 meetings this season –, João Pereira’s men remain at the top of the Liga Portugal Betclic, with 36 pointss. Second place is occupied by Benfica, which has 31 points, but two games in hand. In third place is Porto with 31 (one game less).
Clube de Alvalade returns to the field next Wednesday, December 18th, against the Azoreans of Santa Clara, in a game relating to the round of 16 of the Portuguese Cup. The match against the team led by Vasco Matos will be played at 8:45 pm, in Alvalade.
