-RC (2-2): Racing lets the key slip away

RC traveled to this Saturday as part of the 15th day of Ligue 1. The Sang et Or had to settle for a frustrating 2-2 draw even though they led twice, against an opponent that they had the opportunity to put at 6 points. Hot throwback to this meeting.

The match:
Facing Auxerre on their lawn at Abbé-Deschamps represented a great challenge for RC Lens. Often criticized for its offensive ineffectiveness despite a glimpse of improvement in recent weeks, Racing was the 3rd best team at home, with the strongest defense at home (5 goals conceded). All with a goalkeeper in a state of grace a week earlier against PSG (0-0): Donovan Leon. But if the goalkeeper first won one-on-one against Nzola (6′), he had to give in in the 22nd minute on a deflected rebound from El Aynaoui after a good cross from Labeau Lascary (0- 1). Lens was largely dominant, stifling the AJA, and thus logically leading…

Only the people of Lens will suddenly fall into a certain torpor. We feel the hesitation from the start, materialized by this opportunity very quickly obtained by Joly, blocked with the foot by Samba (23'). The Burgundians finally equalized on a free kick superbly taken by Perrin to surprise Samba (31′, 1-1). Enough to sting the Lensois who are regaining control of the game. Nzola will first miss another good opportunity. In a situation similar to his first missed opportunity, he seems to hesitate and is countered by Jubal. But like in where he was able to score after a big missed opportunity, the attacker was able to demonstrate a mentality of steel. On an opening from Frankowski, this time he does not miss his duel with Leon and gives Lens the advantage just before the break (1-2, 45').

VAR temporarily saves Lens

Racing entered the second half quite well, forcing Leon to make two saves, on a free kick from Khusanov (48′) then a shot with a rebound from Zaroury (54′). The Sang et Or were then treated to a big scare when Joly fell in the area on the hour mark. Jérémy Stinat saw contact from Khusanov but the Uzbek withdrew his foot before touching the Auxerrois. If the referee awards a penalty, he corrects himself after a call from the VAR and sanctions Burgundy with a simulation (63′).

Unfortunately for the Lensois, the Auxerre equalizer was only postponed. On a cross from Sinayoko, the Lens defense is surprised by Osho who deceives Samba from close range (73′, 2-2). The Sang et Or, despite the changes made, are struggling to move forward. We had to wait for an opportunity from Labeau Lascary in the 79th minute and a cross shot to see Abbé-Deschamps experience a little shiver. In stoppage time, a shot from Pereira Da Costa which seemed to be heading towards goal was deflected by Jubal. In the end, RC Lens came away with a 2-2 draw. A good result in itself, on a land where only Monaco won when PSG was hung up there, and , and even beaten. But a result all the same frustrating in view of the scenario, especially since a victory would have allowed Racing to put its evening rival 6 lengths before the break while inserting itself among the European places. While waiting for the other results of this 15th day, Lens is still 6th with 24 points.

Facts to remember:
6': El Aynaoui throws Nzola in depth, the attacker goes to challenge Leon but the goalkeeper wins his one-on-one and deflects the Lensois' attempt for a corner.
14′: Very dangerous cross from Mensah who overflows on his left side and finds Sinayoko in the open area. In the duel with Khusanov who followed him, the attacker was unable to control the ball and fell. A little scare on the Lensois side, and no penalty for the referee, the Auxerres seeming to lose their balance alone.
22′: GOAL FOR LENS: Labeau Lascary eliminates Mensah and crosses for El Aynaoui who concludes his projection into the area with a well-supported right shot but also deflected by Osho. 1-0.
23′: Shifted to the right, Joly takes his chance, Samba diverts his foot for a corner with some success, the ball passing near his post.
31′: GOAL FOR AUXERRE: Free kick for Auxerre less than 20m away, shifted to the left. Perrin rolls up perfectly to deceive Brice Samba. 1-1.
38′: In a position similar to his miss in the 6′ but this time launched by Frankowski, Nzola can appear in front of Leon, slightly off-center on the right. But he seems hesitant to take his chance and is countered by Jubal.
42′: After a corner, Danso inherits the ball in the area, turns around and shoots over.
45′: GOAL FOR LENS: Frankowski wins his duel after a clearance from Leon. He immediately sends a nice deep pass to Nzola who this time wins his duel with the Auxerre goalkeeper. 1-2.
48′: Free kick from more than 20m for Lens, Khusanov takes his chance but misses his shot a little. Leon still has to lie down to receive it.
49′: Acceleration from Sinayoko on the left side, he gets on his right foot and takes his chance from 20m. He rolls but hits over Samba's goal.
54′: Zaroury takes his chance from afar, Leon pushes back not without difficulty because of a rebound.
63′: PENALTY FOR AUXERRE CANCELED: Referee Jérémy Stinat whistles a penalty for alleged contact by Khusanov on Joly in the area. Called by the VAR, he logically refuses the penalty and gives a yellow card for simulation to Joly who absolutely does not seem to have been touched on the available images, the Lensois defender withdrawing his foot.
73′: GOAL FOR AUXERRE: Osho beats the Lens defense with a header from a cross from the right from Sinayoko. 2-2.
79′: Passed behind the defense, Labeau Lascary crosses too much his shot which passes in front of Leon's goal.
90′: Strike from Pereira Da Costa blocked by Jubal when she seemed to be heading towards the goal.
