While we recently had confirmation that we will have to be patient before discovering season 3 of House of the Dragonwe learn that actress Emma D'Arcy, who plays the role of Rhaenyra Targaryen on screen, requested this change for her character in the rest of the series.
House of the Dragon: Emma D'Arcy announces change
After a unanimously acclaimed first season, the fantasy series House of the Dragon made its big comeback in 2024 with its second seasonwhich received more mixed reviews due to its nagging pace. It nonetheless remains one of the great successes of the year for HBO! However, we will have to be patient before discovering season 3, which should arrive on our screens in 2026. Fortunately, we will be entitled to a third series Game of Thrones in 2025, with the first season ofA Knight of the Seven Kingdomsadapted from Chronicles of the Knight Errant.
During his time, the teams of House of the Dragon are working hard to offer us a season 3 much more epic than the previous one, since as the finale of season 2 suggests, total war finally breaks out. The first episode of season 3 should probably begin with the Battle of the Gosier. During an interview given to the podcast Happy Sad ConfusedEnglish actress Emma D'Arcy, who plays the role of Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen – one of the main contenders for the Iron Throne – has claimed that she requested a change for her character in season 3.
The request I made is that I want a gun, because this is getting ridiculous. I don't mind if it's a small dagger or a short sword. I don't really care. No man in the series cares what to do with his hands, because they are all constantly holding the hilt of their sword. This obviously sounds like an implication, and you can make of it what you want, but it's reality. And the rest of us wonder, “Where should we put our fucking hands?” » Anyway, next year we will take care of at least one hand. This is what I want. I want a sword and I was very clear about that with Ryan Condal. I think that's what's going to happen.
As you will have understood, the reason why Emma D'Arcy requested a weapon for her character is above all for reasons of playing comfort. However, this change could bring interesting symbolism. Contested in its authority within its own Restricted Council in season 2, this weapon could be a mark of regaining control of its sovereignty. We do not forget that the sword of Aegon The Conqueror is one of the attributes of the Targaryen dynasty.
And you, what do you think of this change? Don’t hesitate to tell us in the comments area.
