Bayern Munich conceded its first defeat of the season in the German championship, on the lawn of Mainz (2-1) on Saturday afternoon, during the 14e day of the Bundesliga, and sees Bayer Leverkusen, reigning champion, reduce the gap in the standings.
Suspense at the top of the Bundesliga
The Munich residents retain first place, but Bayer Leverkusen, winner in Augsburg 2-0, comes back to four points behind the leader (33 against 29), reigniting the suspense at the top of the Bundesliga.
By taking only four points in the last three days of the championship when Leverkusen took nine, Bayern saw its lead reduced over the Werkself (factory eleven, the nickname of the club team founded in 1904 by the chemist Bayer).

Italy: ten in a row for Atalanta
Atalanta Bergamo, leader of the Italian Championship, suffered, but defeated Cagliari 1-0 and secured for the first time in its history a tenth consecutive victory in Serie A on Saturday.
Atalanta won in Sardinia thanks to a goal from Nicolo Zaniolo (66e), just two minutes after coming into play.
Full card in the championship
Gian Piero Gasperini's team, beaten at home by Real Madrid on Tuesday in the Champions League (3-2), has achieved a solid result in the league since its draw (1-1) in Bologna on September 28.

Surprising third last year, Girona, in numerical superiority from the half-hour mark, suffered a fifth defeat on Saturday in their last six matches in all competitions by losing (2-1) on the pitch of Mallorca, who temporarily climbs to fifth place.
The small Catalan club (9e22 points), yet well launched by the early opening score of the Dutchman Donny van de Beek (7e1-0), then collapsed, conceding a double from Canadian Cyle Larin (20e51e), while the Mallorcans were playing with ten men since the 32e minute and the expulsion of their Kosovar scorer Vedat Muriqi.
Mallorca in contention for the Europa League
Author of a very good start to the season, in line with his Copa del Rey final last year, but beaten by Celta Vigo (2-0) and Barça (5-1) during the last two days, Majorca (5e27 points) returns to success and temporarily overtakes Villarreal to move into fifth place, qualifying for the Europa League.
