There are 30 for a single crown. The election of Miss France 2025 takes place this Saturday, December 14 at the Futuroscope in Poitiers (Vienna) to elect the 95th national beauty queen, who will succeed Ève Gilles, Miss France 2024. To find out how the ceremony takes place, do the update on the rules in force for the competition.
What are the criteria for competing?
Five rules are set: contenders for the title of Miss France must be female, be of French nationality, be over 18 years old, be over 1.70 m tall, and have a clean criminal record. For the rest, other conditions that have been in place for a long time, such as being single, childless or not having tattoos, have been definitively abolished in 2022. Since the same date, transgender candidates have been also admitted to the competition.
However, some prohibitions remain, such as resorting to cosmetic surgery (excluding reconstructive surgery), posing naked or for the purpose of promoting erotic activities, and finally using one's regional scarf to promote political or religious opinions.
How are the regions represented established?
Since the end of the 2000s, the Miss France company has increased the number of committee groupings to align with administrative regions instead of geographic regions. Exit therefore Miss Flanders, Miss Lyon, Miss Camargue, Miss Jura or even Miss Pays du Velay among the multitude of regional sashes which have competed since 1920. Today, the Misses represent entities which for the most part follow the nomenclature of the former regions in force until 2015.
With a few exceptions: Normandy is united, while Provence and the Côte d'Azur are separated. Finally the former Languedoc-Roussillon was split into two elections in 2021, Miss Languedoc and Miss Roussillon. In total, 30 candidates have competed each year since the last major reorganization of the committees in 2016, with the exception of Miss France 2021 where there were only 29 contenders after the cancellation of the Miss Tahiti 2020 election due to the Covid-19. A figure far from the 48 regional Misses for the Miss France 2005 election, the record in the 21st century.
Some overseas committees are present alternately: this is the case of Saint-Martin and Saint-Barthélemy for this edition, the islands of which are only represented every other year, the other benefiting Miss Saint -Pierre and Miquelon. However, the territory located off the coast of Canada has not sent a representative since 2017. The same goes for Wallis and Futuna, which has not competed since 2020.
Compared to last year, we finally note the absence of Miss New Caledonia: the competition could not be organized on Caillou due to the social and political crisis which has affected the archipelago since the spring.
How are the 30 candidates decided?
When you attend the election broadcast on TF1 this Saturday, the chips will already be (half) done: the 15 best candidates were selected by a jury on the basis of several criteria. They each had an interview a few days ago in front of Cindy Fabre, Miss France 2005 and director of the competition, Frédéric Gilbert, director of the Miss France company, as well as numerous professionals from the election's partner companies. Former participants may also sit among these jurors, but their identities are rarely revealed.
During this interview, the regional Misses each parade in turn in an evening dress and a swimsuit, then answer questions about their background, their motivations, their eloquence… Their result in the famous test also comes into play general knowledge and dictation, feared every year by the contenders for the crown. For this edition, it was Marine Przadka, Miss Picardie, who won with a score of 15.5/20. Next on the podium are Miss Guadeloupe, Moïra André, and Miss Auvergne, Romane Agostinho.
In this selection phase, neither the public nor the jury of stars that you will see this Saturday are taken into account. At the end of the interviews, the jury establishes the list of 15 semi-finalists in the competition.
Once there are only 15, how does it work?
This is when you enter the fray, like the celebrity jury, chaired this year by Sylvie Vartan. After the announcement of the 15 semi-finalists, you will be able to vote for your favorite by phone or SMS. Your votes will be counted equally with those of the jury, 50% on each side.
The five candidates will then be designated who will reach the final and can still dream of the title. The top 5 will again be decided by the public votes and the jury votes, which will each count half. From there, Jean-Pierre Foucault, Cindy Fabre and Sylvie Vartan will be able to announce the final ranking of the election and the name of Miss France 2025.
What does Miss France win once she is elected?
The young woman becomes an employee of the Miss France company for her year of reign. She receives a salary “worthy of a senior executive”, according to statements by Sylvie Tellier to L'Express in 2016, Miss France 2002 and former director of the competition. The amount is between 3,000 and 5,000 euros. In addition to her salary, during her reigning year, the lucky winner benefits from numerous advantages such as a company apartment in Paris, paid for by the Miss France company, and not just any one. This is an apartment located in the 17th arrondissement of the capital, near the Arc de Triomphe, whose monthly rent would be around 1,500 euros per month.
Thanks to the event's sponsors, Ève Gilles' successor will also receive many gifts. For example, Miss France 2024 received, among other things, a Toyota car, jewelry from Mauboussin, a week-long trip to Guyana, flowers, Sima Couture evening dresses, a wardrobe of eight watches. Festina, a professional makeup table and a year of Sothys treatment, the provision of a Saint Algue hairdresser for a year for his public appearances, a MacBook Pro, a television, a light epilator pulse or even a one-year subscription to a beauty box.
The former Miss Nord-Pas-de-Calais also declared to our colleagues at Télé Star that she had left some gifts for the new Miss France for her reigning year: “I prepared lots of little surprises for her in the apartment, gifts to comfort her, such as a blanket, a bracelet, a small personalized notebook, and a disposable camera.
