Zulte Waregem is again the sole leader in the Jupiler Pro League after a 1-2 victory over Lommel. Only in injury time did substitute Machado make the difference.
Zulte Waregem traveled to Lommel SK on Saturday afternoon, where they had the opportunity to regain their leading position. Lommel could narrow the gap with the top 4 with a win. Jelle Vossen started on the bench for the visitors.
The match started quite slowly. Both teams were exploring a bit, although Lommel was a lot more dominant in the first fifteen minutes. Zulte Waregem did not touch the ball, but by minute 20 the game picture changed a bit.
The visitors were able to steal the momentum from Lommel, and it paid off. In minute 37 it was Traoré who was able to give Zulte Waregem the lead. He was sent wonderfully deep by Gavriel and did not hesitate until he came face to face with Ivezic.
But Lommel quickly reached the same level, it couldn’t have gone much faster. Less than a minute later, Diego Rosa was given some space around the penalty area, after which he sent the ball into the top corner with a great bang. This way we could go to halftime with a 1-1 score.
After the break we had many chances, but none of them went into goal. Both Lommel and Zulte Waregem could have made the difference. Substitute Kebe headed into the ground from very close range, causing the ball to go just wide. Moments later, Lommel goalkeeper Ivezic kept his team straight with a nice relfex on a deflected ball.
In the end, Zulte Waregem still took the victory. Substitute Machado kicked his team to victory in injury time. As a result, Zulte Waregem is again the sole leader and jumps over La Louvière, which won against Seraing earlier this weekend. Lommel remains sixth with 20 points.
