Bayer Leverkusen’s away game was in Augsburg. The guests wanted to live up to their role as favorites. Right from the start, Xhaka and Co. put their stamp on the game. Martin Terrier shot Leverkusen in front after a quarter of an hour. The goal served as a wake-up call for Augsburg. Keven Schlotterbeck equalized for FCA – but the goal didn’t count due to an offside position. But the Werkself did not tolerate Augsburg’s rebellion. Shortly before the break, Florian Wirtz increased the score to 0:2.
Leverkusen also had significantly more possession of the ball in the second half and determined the course of the game. This was rather quiet in the second half. The Werkself had everything under control and showed Augsburg its limits. There weren’t many chances to score anymore. Granit Xhaka played through. The Nati captain had the most ball contact and performed well.
Bayern got off to a furious start in the duel against Bo Henriksen’s Mainz. Michal Olise hit the post with his shot. After that the game basically came to a standstill. The people of Mainz touched the concrete mixer and defended with all their might. Things got even better for Mainz in the 40th minute. The Munich team stopped defending and left far too much space in the middle for Lee, who accepted the invitation and scored for the much celebrated 1-0 lead.
The Munich team were also out of ideas in the second half. So it wasn’t surprising that Lee showed Bayern’s defensive weaknesses with a 2-0 win for Mainz. Leroy Sané shortened the score four minutes before the end, but the turnaround was no longer successful. It is the first defeat in the Bundesliga for Munich this season.
Union fans are causing a scandal. In stoppage time, Bochum keeper Drewes was hit by a lighter and fell to the ground. The game is interrupted when the score is 1:1, it is still unclear whether the game and the goalie will continue.
Borussia Mönchengladbach wanted to confirm their good form against newly promoted Holstein Kiel. The home team got started straight away like the fire brigade. After 36 seconds, Tim Kleindienst headed Gladbach into the lead. After the starting fireworks, the game calmed down a bit. Nevertheless, the host clearly had the upper hand. In the 26th minute, Nati defender Nico Elvedi launched Robin Hack into the depths with a wonderful long ball. Hack made it 2-0 with a remarkable lob.
And Kiel? Came out of nowhere to score after half an hour. Armin Gigovic slammed the ball into the corner from around 25 meters. But that didn’t impress Gladbach. Alassane Pléa made it 3-1 in the 43rd minute. In the second half the foals slowed down and Holstein got into the game better. But chances to score were a rare commodity – on both sides. In the 78th minute, Pléa scored a brace and made the final score 4-1.
