It might have been 18 years since the show wrapped, but Malcolm in the Middle has remained as a go-to, legendary sitcom for many. And fans who’ve been holding out all that time finally have some good news as the show is set for a reboot.

Yep, Malcom in the Middle is returning for a short-run revival on Disney+ with some of its major stars confirmed; Frankie Muniz, Bryan Cranston and Jane Kaczmarek.

But from what we know so far, it’s likely there’ll be a certain face missing with Muniz previously giving a particularly honest answer when asked where the actor who played Dewey has been.

Erik Per Sullivan played the youngest child of the infamous family and was quite the fan favourite. However, he pretty much disappeared from the spotlight when the show ended.

Fans were calling out for updates about what he’s up to now and so Malcolm decided to ask the main star if he could give some insight.

“To be honest, I don’t know what he’s up to,” Muniz explained in 2017. “I hate to say that because I’ve talked to him a few times since the show ended.

“I’ve talked to his parents a lot. When I was in the band, we went and played in the city where he lives and his parents came to the show but unfortunately he couldn’t make it.

“So I got to talk to them, and he’s been all over doing a lot of different things.

“But one thing I know, some actors or some people just got to do it when they were a kid and then they wanted to experience other things and kind of live a more normal life out of the spotlight.

“I think that’s what he wanted to do so good for him.”

It’s been known for quite some time that the Malcolm in the Middle cast had been joining fans’ calls for a reboot and now it seems to finally be happening.

As well as the mentioned stars, series creator Linwood Boomer is also set to return as writer and executive producer of the four-episode revival.

Malcolm in the Middle is a landmark sitcom that captured the essence of family life with humour, heart and relatability,” Disney Branded Television president Ayo Davis said in a statement. “Its hilarious and heartfelt portrayal of a lovably chaotic family resonated with audiences of all ages, and we’re so excited to welcome the original cast back to bring that magic to life again.

“With Linwood Boomer and the creative team at the helm, these new episodes will have all the laughs, pranks and mayhem fans loved – along with a few surprises that remind us why this show is so timeless.”

A premiere date for the revival is yet to be announced but it will stream on Disney+ and Hulu.
